INTRODUCTION

• One of a series of warnings that Paul gives.
• • "Give more earnest heed...
  • "Lest we drift away." (v. 1)
• GREAT MESSAGE BECAUSE:
• • The known authority of the Law - and this message is greater.
  • The character of the New Message is Salvation.
  • The Person of the Messenger.
  • The Confirmation of the Message. Signs and by gifts of the Holy Spirit.
  • The inevitable consequence of Neglect.
• THE WORD "NEGLECT"
• • Compare to Matthew 22:5.
  • Same word.
  • • "Ameleo" = Matt. 22:5 = "Made light of"
    • "Ameleo" = Heb. 2:3 = "Neglect"
  • "To be careless, not to care"
  • Translated also as "regard' or lack of regard.
• ONE OF MAN'S PROBLEMS TODAY - In important things man:
• • Is careless.
  • Hold it in no regard.
  • Makes light of...Mocks.

4. Let us notice some examples:

MAKE LIGHT OF GOD

• The theory of evolution.
• • Where did we come from?
  • Who is your (our) nearest non-human relative?
• BY PROFANING HIS NAME:
• • "O my God"....is a laugh line for many.
  • Curse and swearing.
  • Taking God's name in vain.

4. Exodus 20:1-4 (Beginning of 10 Commandments)

MAKE LIGHT OF CHRIST

• "Laughed Him to scorn" (Matt. 9:24).
• • The occasion. Ruler's daughter - sick - died.
  • Mis-understood His power.
  • Raised her from dead.
• JUST A CARPENTER: During His ministry, Made light of what he did.
• ON THE CROSS: Thy mocked Him....Made light of Him.

• MEN TODAY:
• • Those of the world who deny Him.
  • Those in religion who:
  • • Make light of his teachings.
    • Neglect, Take no care for what he says.

3. Have no regard or respect for the teachings of Jesus.

Make Light Of The Gospel

• One way as good as another.
• Doesn't matter what you believe as long as honest, sincere, etc.
• Don't know and are not interested enough to study God's Word to see what

He would have us to do. Rather decide for themselves.

MAKE LIGHT OF SIN

• The Moral Decay Of Our Day:
• • The preacher, tried by his church for performing marriage for two homo-sexuals. Found not guilty. What he did was all right.
  • Preacher for same denomination - publicly preaches and teaches - free sexual activity for every one, without marriage for teenagers to those who have lost their mates through death or divorce.
• THE WORLD MAKES LIGHT OF SIN.
• • You name it.....
  • And the world tries to excuse it.
• BUT GOD STILL SAYS: "THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH!"

Makes Light Of The Church

• CHRISTIANITY YES...........CHURCHANITY NO!
• • Sounds good....but honestly...
  • They don't know what they are saying.
• YOU CANNOT DENY THE CHURCH WITHOUT DENYING CHRIST!
• • Because it is His Body
  • He bought it with His Blood. (Acts 20;7).
• HE IS ITS HEAD AND SAVIOR. (Ephesians, Colossians)

Neglect So Great Salvation

• HOW MANY TODAY - NEGLECT - MAKE LIGHT OF THE SALVATION THAT GOD OFFERS?
• • Do not say or teach that it (salvation from God) is a bad thing.
  • Just not interested.
  • At least not now.
  • 
    
    
• WHAT POSITION DOES RELIGION AND SPIRITUAL MATTER HOLD IN THE LIFE OF PEOPLE TODAY?
• • As you drive to worship on Sunday morning, do you see more people:
  • • Getting out and going to worship
    • Staying home...self indulging , resting, napping, loafing, etc.
    • Going for entertainment...sports, fish, car races, etc.

2. Now read: (Matthew 6:33) (See also Luke 9:23)

• CAN'T MAKE LIGHT OF IT NOW....
• • Then claim it (salvation) after death.
  • "Be not deceived; God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. (Galatians 6:7).

CONCLUSION

• HOW SHALL WE ESCAPE?

• ANSWER: There is no Escape....for those who "make light of the Great Salvation.
• IN MATTHEW 22:5 THEY MADE LIGHT OF HIS INVITATION.
